The Ergonomics of Movement

Sportswear clothing insights from Ten X You Playbook

Most people think design starts with fabric. We think it starts with friction. The places where clothing pulls. Where it tightens. Where it interrupts movement instead of supporting it.

Because performance gear isn’t tested when you stand still.
It’s tested when you lunge, twist, sprint, stretch,  when the body moves faster than the garment expects. That’s where design often disappears or gets in the way. We wanted to change that.

God is in the details

Good performance design rarely announces itself. It hides in the parts you don’t consciously notice.

Like the waistband you don’t adjust mid-run.  The seam that doesn’t pull when you squat. The pocket that holds your phone without bouncing.

The truth is, these are the details that decide whether clothing works with you or against you.

Rethinking the Waistband

Waistbands are one of the tightest contact points on the body. They sit against skin, move with breath, and absorb constant motion. So instead of treating drawcords as a basic functional feature, we treated them as a comfort decision.

We asked: What if people want different things from the same garment?

Some prefer the drawcord outside for ease.  Some tuck it in for a cleaner feel. Some want firmness. Others want softness next to skin. So we designed for options.

Drawcords that can be tied inside or outside.
Structures that balance fit without creating pressure points.
Materials that stay comfortable even when the waistband sits tight against the body.

Because versatility isn’t just a feature. It’s respect for how differently people experience comfort.

Movement begins at the pivot points

The body doesn’t move in straight lines. It bends, rotates, stretches, and shifts direction constantly. But garments are static unless you design them not to be.

That’s where the gusset comes in. A small patch of cloth, placed where the body needs space to move. Often unnoticed, but always working.

By building gussets into key pivot points like the crotch, sleeves, and joints, we allow the garment to follow motion instead of resisting it.

The result isn’t something you see. It’s something you stop noticing. Which is exactly the point. Because when design works, you don’t think about the clothing.  You feel the movement.

Utility, Uninterrupted.

Storage in sportswear is a tricky balance. People want their essentials close,  but anything placed badly becomes a distraction in motion.

A pocket that swings, a zipper that presses, a phone that shifts weight mid-run – all absolute no no.

So we approached utility like we approach movement:  by studying where the body naturally stabilises.

Pockets placed where motion is least disrupted.
Zippers that secure without stiffness.
Storage that moves with the body instead of fighting it.

Because the best utility feature is the one you forget is there.

Designed for performance

At Ten X You, we believe performance isn’t built from one big innovation. It’s built from dozens of small, thoughtful decisions. We’ve partnered with some of the best in the business to deliver that performance to you.

Drawcord that gives you choice. Gusset that gives you freedom.
Pockets that give you security without distraction. None of these shout for attention.
But together, they change how the garment feels in motion. And you can, comfortably, #NeverStopPlaying.

ABOUT PLAYBOOK

Through our Playbook series, we’ll keep breaking down the thinking behind every choice we make,  from fabrics to fits to form.Because when design, science, and the human body move together, performance stops being forced. It starts feeling natural.
